55right place right time
This does not apply to me.
Looking through trade magazines not long ago i encountered the names of 2 people I know. One i worked with years ago and 1 i went to school with (a year younger than me).
These 2 now occupy senior roles in companies (large ones), i won't name the companies or the indivduals.
Now these 2 weren't what you say actually ripping up trees, but there they are.I have changed jobs a few times to progress, onlt to find the glass ceiling.
When you join the world is yours for the taking, however at some point external individuals are brought in, inevitably bringing in their own people, and boom all hopes of progression are dashed.
Now i firmly believe the decisions i have made have shaped me and i have no regrets, certain things wouldn't have happened and i wouldn't have met certain people if i had not gone in certain directions.
But:
I am a firm believer of 'right place right time'. A little talent can go a long way if you find yorself in the right place. Joining a new organisation when they are small, before you know it they have grown and your position has grown. Suddenly you occupy a position you could never occupy in another organisation in a similar field.
This is proved none more so than my previous job, where there are untold 'spanners' with limited ability all commanding large wages, and who would think nothing of 'selling' you out to save they're own slimy backs.
No names but the field is construction.
Or am i bitter?
